Go CarbonNeutral

go carbonneutral

CarbonNeutral is the point at which the emissions from an activity or series of activities have been:

  • assessed
  • reduced, where possible; and
  • the remaining emissions offset through investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency or forestry projects

We will help you go through this process in the most cost-effective and beneficial way. By using the CarbonNeutral standard, you will be registered on the growing database of businesses and organisations, which is audited by an independent 3rd party. You are then free to use and promote your CarbonNeutral status. We will help you promote this position in the most effective way.

Six easy steps

CarbonNeutral Newcastle can help your business make the most of the benefits of addressing climate change. From advising on the most effective ways to conserve and generate energy; to initiating communications programmes and engaging staff; to helping you develop energy efficient products and processes.

There are six simple steps to helping your organisation measure and reduce the carbon emissions from its operations and then ‘balance’ unavoidable emissions. Once completed, the CarbonNeutral quality stamp, our licensed trademark, may be used to signify best practice.

Step 1: director commitment

Strong leadership is needed from the highest level to make the CarbonNeutral initiative successful. The process starts with a signed commitment from the top to undertake the baselining and reduction plan steps.

Step 2: measurement and baselining

With almost every business, there are some simple and practical ways that you can reduce emissions - from recycling to cycling to work.

One of the most significant ways that your business can achieve this is through energy efficiency in the workplace. Our partners will conduct an energy efficiency audit for you, and give you advice on implementing measures to reduce your emissions, saving you money. If you are interested in generating your own energy through microrenewable technology, our network of advisors can help.

Step 3: producing a reduction plan

The CarbonNeutral team will work with you to develop a carbon reduction plan, including emissions from energy, transport and waste. This will recognise your business drivers and aspirations, whilst maximising possible carbon reduction. It will form the basis of your CarbonNeutral commitment.

Step 4: reducing your carbon emissions

Your CarbonNeutral status is a cost-effective and highly useful extension to your brand. Telling staff and customers about your activities not only means that you can demonstrate your carbon responsibility, but spread the word about protecting the environment to bring this issue to the attention of a wider audience:

Step 5: neutralising your emissions

Non-reducible emissions may be balanced through local projects or offset through our partners the CarbonNeutral company. On your behalf, we will invest in projects, which switch from fossil fuels to low-carbon and no-carbon technologies, including insulation and renewable energy. Our balancing projects are based in the North East, creating economic development and social improvements. Balance projects are based overseas. Find out more

Step 6: carbonNeutral communication

With the baseline, reduction plan and balance programme underway, your company will have taken its carbon responsibility to the next level. This gives a strong position for promotion and communication to the public, clients, staff and other audiences. The team will help you develop materials for the media, internal and external channels.
