CarbonNeutral Newcastle's Partners

We work with a number of local and national organisations to help you reduce your carbon emissions and support our locally based projects.

Newcastle City Council

The City Council developed and has spearheaded the CarbonNeutral campaign from its start. It forms an important aspect of the Councils Climate Change strategy, meeting the objectives of the Nottingham Declaration, and delivering its objectives for a sustainable city. CarbonNeutral policies are being integrated into strategic decisions, including energy, transport and development.

The Environment Agency

Responsible for regulating emissions to air, water and land, the Environment Agency recognises climate change as the major environmental challenge, impacting all aspects of its remit. The EA has been a strong backer of the campaign since launch, and has made its offices and management practices CarbonNeutral.

CarbonNeutral Company

Formerly Future Forests, the CarbonNeutral Company, developed, managed and launched the campaign from 2002-2003. ‘CarbonNeutral' the leading branded standard for voluntary action on climate change, is still used as a campaign identity and standard, courtesy of the Company. The Company also supported the research programme into public attitudes on climate change, and shares best-practice on use of carbon balance and climate change communication.

Centre for Life

The Centre for Life is an award-winning science centre where imaginative exhibitions, interactive displays and special events inspire curiosity in science and the world around us. The Centre features a permanent exhibition that explores the story of human life. Find out what the latest research is telling us about who we really are, discover how we have adapted to live in different environments around the world today and see how issues, such as climate change, might affect how we live in years to come. The exhibition includes a CarbonNeutral Newcastle carbon calculator for children.

Complementing the exhibition are 3 theatres. The Life Theatre features live science demonstrations, The Dome shows the latest science productions projected onto a unique 360° screen and there's also a 3D Motion Ride with seats that move in time with the action on screen.

There's also a programme of touring exhibitions, special family activities, lectures and workshops throughout the year.

Helix Arts

Helix Arts specialises in the development of projects and initiatives, including artist residencies and commissions, which explore the role and potential of the arts in a social context. It is leading, through partnership with CarbonNeutral Newcastle, on the development of ‘Climate Change : Cultural Change', a series of artists commissions, exhibitions, installations and events around the climate change theme. The programme will be a key theme of the World Cultural Summit, taking place in NewcastleGateshead in June 2006, on ‘changing lives, changing places'.
